Monogrammed Napkin Rings

Over the next week or so I'll be sharing some projects with you that were made for a special couple for their engagement celebration but with some minor tweaking you could easily make them into Valentine's Day projects.

The happy couple is a no nonsense couple but even still, it was nice to decorate to make the occasion even more memorable. First things, first. We needed a theme to work with. The bride and groom's favourite colours of red and blue combined with their initials was a good starting point.

Red and Blue on their own don't exactly conjure up a romantic mood but with the addition of some white and a bit of hessian (burlap) we were heading in the right direction.

The bride (and the groom!) got involved and stamped up the monograms and then punched them out whilst I was away at CHA. It was great to have this job already done when I got home. Neither of them has ever stamped or paper crafted before. Didn't they do an amazing job?

The stamp set is from Just Rite. It comes with several different sized fonts which clip in and out of the base stamp - so neat! I've had this set for a few years and I think the font might be retired now but they have others available. The flourish stamp around the outside is part of the same system and it is one of several different designs that come in the set so you can personalise your monogram to suit your taste and theme.

Then it was over to me to design the rest of the napkin ring.

We needed a band to attach the monogram disks to so firstly I cut strips of copy paper and punched them with the large Flower Burst punch from EK Success. This punch is designed to give you a continuous edge if you line up your punched pattern with the pattern on the base. But I wanted to make a complete flower burst so I lined up the paper with the end for the first punch and then turned the paper around to punch the other side.

By trimming away the paper from the ends of the pattern you can create a band.

To give the serviettes a nice round shape, we rolled them around an empty kitchen paper tube and then wrapped the band around the serviette, securing it with double sided tape.

Glue Dots were perfect for attaching some short strips of hessian to the centre of the sunburst - they're super adhesive, super fast and with no mess.

And finally, we placed the monogram on top with another Glue Dot.

These were a real hit with the guests and I notice many of them took one home with them. It was a really nice personal touch and the happy couple loved seeing their initials together.

So for Valentine's Day, why not make up a monogrammed napking ring for you and your Sweetheart and create a special dinner setting just for the two of you. I'll be back with some other easy table decorations soon.

'Til next time.....
